An electro-kinetic sound installation.
A continuous quarter inch tape loop rotates around in an
assemblage of appropriated and hand built electro-mechanical
analogue parts. These are placed in a circular arrangement on
an A1 sized metal and acrylic panel, aesthetically resembling finished polished metalwork.
The tape loop runs in a single direction through a hand built
capstan and pinch roller mechanism and strategically-placed
spools around the panel.
A slider switch controls recording intervals onto the tape
from a microphone fixed on the panel, and a
second slider is located between two of the
reels. This unit incorporates the analogue tape playhead.
This allows 'scratching' of the recording on the tape as it is moved from
side to side.
